The Chinese have been wearing Jade for thousands of years. They continue to keep the beautiful stone alive with current trends and beliefs in the many healing benefits it possesses.
Jade is believed to bring wisdom, balance, and harmony to the one who wears it. It is also thought to relieve anxiety and protect from negative energies and promote a calm soothing feeling.
Fall is my absolute favorite season, bringing family and friends together. This year I designed some very unique pieces of jewelry art to capture the beauty of our Natural World. With the vision of Nick Lombard and my jewelry art, we are able to show you the joy of jewelry art.

Hidden secrets from within a gemstone
Tiger's Eye is a quartz crystal that can appear in a variety of colors in its natural environment. Some people believe tiger's eye can bring harmony and release fear and anxiety.
With it's beautiful golden-yellow bands in a deep brown color, the tiger's eye stone had been thought to manifest money.
When tiger's eye entered society, it was traditinally made into an amulet to ward off curses or ill-wishings. Also, the people believed it would bring courage and self-confidence to the ones who had it in possession.

Vietnamese Potbelly Pig "Scout" 2 years old.
If you didn't know already, potbelly pigs get pretty big. I would like to introduce you to a wonderful boy, "Scout the Snout" he is a part of the joostdesigns family.
One of his baby pics around 5 months old. He was just a were little boy. Always has his nose in something. Fun pig fact: Pigs LOVE to root (dig in the ground and eat up the roots). This is a very enjoyable piggy event and if you decide you want a pig for a pet, just keep an eye on this big boy and learn about what it takes to have a pig.
Do you have a veterinarian who is comfortable working with pigs and willing to come to you? It is important to spay and neuter your pigs, just like you would any of your other pets. To many pigs are finding themselves homeless because people think they want one and then realize they are nothing at all what they expected them to be. Please take responsibility for the new family member if you decide to get a little nose digger. Scout is a lot of work and needs love all day long, especially in the mohave desert.
They told me he is not going to get more than 50 pounds. (Stop and think really hard about this one... when was the last time you saw a mini pig, aside from it being a piglet)? Where is the mom and dad pig? Find out how big they are. Most mini pigs (micro pigs are not a real breed) he will get up to 150-200 pounds. This is not an understatement and your pig will be at a healthy weight.
To find out more on pig ownership visit "Scout the Snout" on Facebook. Be his friend for the latest updates on scout and his factoids.
"Gathered Threads" (aka Kumihimo)
Originating in Japan, Kumihimo is becoming more and more popular among western jewelry designers. Threads are weaved together in a rope like pattern creating a very tight weave. Some designs are more circular in style, while others can be square.
I enjoy creating Kumihimo jewelry using at least eight threads and embellishing them with hundreds of beads (estimate an average of no less than 400 beads for a bracelet and 800 beads for a necklace all the way up to multi-strand designs.)
Time consuming as it is, kumihimo has a very therapeutic feel when you start weaving the threads together over and over and over again, until your piece is at the desired length.
This ancient technique is so inspiring to me that I will continue to help evolve and transform it into my jewelry designs.
Jewelry can lose it’s glamour, but a cup of warm water with 1-2 tsp. of disinfecting dish soap and a polishing cloth will bring the bling back, making your jewelry look brand new. (This is great for silver and other non-ferros metals).
Simply rinse the piece of jewelry and gently scrub the tarnish or dirt off the surface with a soft cloth or toothbrush, be sure not to scratch the metal or stones with a rough surface.
Rinse again in the warm water, then dry and polish to a beautiful shine.
For other metals with no gemstones, add 1 part ammonia and 1 part dish soap and soak in warm water. Scrub with soft cloth, rinse. dry and polish for a lovely shine.
You can use denim (jeans) or simply a polishing cloth to shine tarnished jewelry if your resources are limited.
Caring for your jewelry also includes; taking it off when you shower, clean house and even sleep. Be sure to put it away in a safe place away from dust and moisture. It will last much longer and stay looking new.
If you have any questions about specific jewelry, please comment and I will be sure to respond.
Semi-precious stones are a class of natural stone that consists of garnets, citrine, aquamarine, and other mineral stones. They have been used in different cultures as healing stones. There are over 120 semi-precious stones. The semi-precious category can include some precious stones. A diamond with no clarity and a C grade can easily slip into the category of semi-precious stone with ease. Most semi-precious stones have been treated with resin, heat, or irradiation to stabilize and enhance their colors.
Professional healers can use the minerals as a method to heal the mind, body, and soul. Using the semi-precious stone rose quartz has been said to bring peace and harmony, while it can also help strengthen the heart muscle and create good blood circulation. Also, rose quartz is believed to prevent heart attacks and aid in cases of depression, insomnia, and mental problems. Some women believe rose quartz will improve fertility. AKA the “Love Stone”.
Every stone has a different healing property and also can be used in meditation to help open up chakras and protect you. Just because the stone is semi-precious does not mean it is not of great value. Mother Earth gives us natural things for a reason.
